Quick post. I suck, especially with camera…busy…yadiyada.
Maybe I’ll suck less (that’s what she said) if you (any, all) buy me these (any, all):
Please & thank you. Acne.
Unfortunately this won’t be a graphic post rivaling the snippets of erotica at the end of Cosmo. (One day though…) But for now let’s talk about something my mom would only be too proud to know I was blogging about…contraception!
Some of you know what my mom does, some don’t: she’s an OBGYN. …Google it. As a result I’m the kid who knew a bit too much about things I probably shouldn’t have known about in elementary school and for the most part I wished I didn’t know most of it. Anyway, let’s get to the point.
Contraception is…ugly. It is not aesthetically pleasing. Lots of silver foil and plastic and numbers that mean nothing to us, even the “fancy” condoms are still just…condoms. It’s easy to forget your pill, it’s easy to forget to bring a condom, and I hate to say it, but for many people I know (and you know) it’s just not a big deal if one or the other (or both) are forgotten. Without even touching on pregnancy we all know there are other consequences. So what do I suggest? Make it pretty! Sorry guys, this post really isn’t for you, but then again you’re not getting pregnant so…I don’t care.
Now if you’re anything like my friends and me we can’t stop looking at pretty things, and when one is acquired we’re only too fast to show it off. Well if pills were kept in a case that had the same effect perhaps it would be at the front of one’s mind as opposed to way in the back. We’d want to keep our pill cases with us just in case the chance to came up for “What this? Not a compact. I know, so cool.” Sounds silly, but you know it would happen. Lucky for you there are fashionable alternatives at your disposal! These pretty pill cases were designed by Nicole Miller and unfortunately are no longer in production, but can be found on ebay every so often.
There is also Pillpaks which have alarms on them and also come in cute girly styles. But if you decide that you’re unique and therefore your birth control should be too then run (don’t walk!) to Squirrel’s Nest shop on Etsy where all the cases are hand-made and custom orders are on the menu! You can look through sold items to get an idea of what you want and even ask for a repeat of a past item.
The handcuffs case was by far my favourite because how can you go wrong with sparkles and handcuffs? You can’t. Well, it could be not orange. Alright, onto condoms! Ladies, we are not going to keep condoms in our wallets and then chortle like neanderthals when we take them out…that’s for their species. If we are going to keep a condom on us it has to be sexy as does the presentation when we reveal that we’re carrying.
That’s where Just In Case comes in. This one actually is a compact…with a secret compartment that holds up to 2 condoms. The classic style is the “little black compact” which is definitely the most affordable, but we we’re talking about pretty right? In that case, we want bling!
It’s definitely quite the price to pay for sexy condom concealment, but it’s just so sparkly! Imagine you pull it out, light shines off of it in all directions, you snap it open then lift the secret compartment to smoothly reveal a condom…I’m putting this in a movie. Okay, so now you have a bunch of fashionable ways of keeping the things you need close and presentable! So let’s take those pills and whip out those condoms! And as always kids, have fun! (That’s a tad creepy…)
Rocky Horror, auditions, new show, school, life… The usual. I’ve had complaints. I’m sorry. Is it that I’ve stopped spending far too long thinking of outfits? No. I just haven’t been taking pictures…missed out on some great outfits…I’ll just re-do them.
But what’s to come?! (In this post, that is. I’m not at the point to plan future posts just yet.) Animals, heels, photo shoots in a washroom, a particular trooper of a silk skirt. It’s all very exciting. We have some new additions to the family! The family being Charo and myself. Goldie has arrived along with others who have been named and will be introduced…right now!
Rupa and Hema the elephant sisters, Giles the hound and Bimb the peacock. I realize I’m starting to sound a bit crazy, but…(well for those of you that will understand this) it’s just another tactic, really.
I found Bimb in my favourite vintage jewelry store. It’s this little hole in the wall off of Mount Pleasant by Eglinton and it’s rare to catch it open. I got lucky recently and picked up this gem and a beautiful vintage ring which I’ll post soon.
The woman who runs it is great and extremely knowledgable not just with vintage, but with trends so she knows how to “talk shop” as we in the biz put it. …Wow. It’s called The Bead Goes On and I highly recommend it.The stuff is great and the prices are very reasonable, I’m honestly shocked every time at how little I’m paying for these gorgeous pieces.
Onto people! I have some old pictures from the Rocky Horror gala night and some from a random night in which I actually remembered to take out the camera. We got really into posing on gala night, we look a bit ridiculous, but it was fun. Also please note my shoes in those pictures…YSL Aliama. 50% off. Yeah, baby. A second please note: I know I’m wearing the same skirt in both, these pictures are separated by a month, I don’t just wear it everyday…maybe if I had it in several colours…
It’s been a while. It has also been exams, break, Christmas, New Years, Rocky, so I have a bunch of excuses…always with the excuses. I had quite a good Christmas (followed by 3 days of shopping so a good extended Christmas, some nice gems). Got really lazy with the camera and lazy in general, but I did manage to acquire a few pictures. I still want to do an animal accessory post, and with QMT’s The Rocky Horror Show opening on Wednesday I’m hoping to have some pretty outfits that will also warrant a fabulous post. Maybe even get some shots of our very sexy costumes to post after the show closes! Do I have any amusing stories? No. Not a very exciting break, although after spending the last 4 days in a theatre I’m finding pretty much everything hilarious so I’m sure I’ll have some great sleep deprived stories soon. I tried to wear more colour this break, I planned on doing a “challenge” but…lazy…you know. It was also far easier to work colour in for a reason that is very evident in the pictures.
Oh, and remember that MuchMusic VJ thang and I made people watch things and just wouldn’t stop pushing them…here’s an even better one! It’s a segment on our Rocky Horror Show! Watch it then buy tickets! And dress up! Who hasn’t thought about dressing in drag?
- Checkered Christmas
- Combat Christmas
- Pink & navy
- Holes in winter…
- Belt to boots
- It’s ‘apricot’ not ‘orange’
- Free spirit
- Mauve & Charo
- New pose?
Sure, it’s a new love. So I’m making sure I hardcore it. (Hardcore as a verb.) I’ve talked about Christopher Ross, Charo, there was that amazing Koala mum & baby ring and now I have finally visited the site I meant to visit about 5 weeks ago, but only remembered to while in the hair dresser’s today. The site? nOir Jewelry. Les pièces de résistance? Jewel encrusted animal rings! These are a few of my favs:
I was pretty tempted to get Fig, but although it’s a pretty out of this world ring, I don’t think I would wear it too much. So I ordered this one (as Santa) for myself:
She (yes, it’s a she) has these cute little cartoon-ish eyes and a pearl at the end of her trunk, just too adorable. So far it looks like come the 25th I’ll have a zoo wrapped up under the Christmas tree…wear all the animal accessories together and I could play out stories with them on train rides to and from Kingston. Or not. Definitely not. I hate toys…
Whatever, man! I’ll name them all! Charo, Goldie…and friends! Maybe they’ll make friends with the miniatures on my friends’ blog, Little Selves. Hopefully Charo won’t hunt and eat any of them. Okay, this has already gone too far. The weekend starts tomorrow so I’ll start wearing clothes that are blog worthy (hopefully) and have some new pictures on here pronto (unless I lose another camera).
Animalady out.
…That title is just too appropriate for (most) of the following photos. Oh, but I also found this: “Not like a hooker but more like a Princess”. Akon has such a way with words. The princess line was a very close second, but we don’t want prissy people getting their panties in a bunch over “hooker”…although they probably got their panties in a bunch over that whole “panties in a bunch” line…one more time, pantiesss.
Okay, it’s out of my system, onto the panties pictures! (Gotcha!) We finally had our “official” Rocky Horror party, in hand with costumes, so you can just guess what the pictures of these sexy ladies are going to look like. Somehow two more normal pictures have worked their way into the mix, but I had no where else to place them, so deal with it. Obviously Charo will be making an appearance and will continue to run this site until after Christmas (right, Santa?)
- Studded Booties
- Classy Hoe
- Intellectual Hoe?
- Short(s) Hoe
- Layered Fishnets
- “Madame”
- Effortless Pose
- Moulin Rouge Dancer
- Several Natur-Elles!
- Cool Belted Vest
- Winter Sweater
P.S. If you clicked the link above you’ll see our new website, if not here is again: Rocky Horror Show!
P.P.S. I apologize for the stupid faces I have in both my pictures, it was not a photogenic weekend for me, I’ve deleted all other evidence. Take that, paparazzi! (Yeah, right…)
P.P.P.S.
Did I skip November? Yes. Did I have good reasons as to why? Yes. Will I tell you? No. Enh, why not. Very simple really, by the time I acquired a working camera and got all the pictures it was pretty much December. Besides who really likes November anyways? What’s it really good for? Back at TFS we had a week off, but don’t get that luxury now. We do Thanksgiving (properly) in October, so no holiday. And really the entire month is spent waiting for Christmas…for most people, at least the December break. Enough of the December rant, on to our Natur-Elle!
Meet Christianne. I think the picture pretty much says it all. Just wait until you read her interview, she’s a wild child. Christianne is in Rocky as a phantom and dance captain. She joined a bit late, but came right into the rehearsal room and one of the first things I remember her saying was “Okay guys, how about we run that again?” Music to my ears, and serious dance captain material. She’s been the love of my life since and we’re expecting our first singing, dancing, acting, fashion-ing, eating, drinking, slacking (off) child anytime now. I’m so glad she has started to do shows here because she always has the right attitude and knows what has to go down in rehearsal, I’m seriously impressed. And did I mention she rather spend all her money on clothes then suffer…but suffer in nice clothing? You can see why I like her.
The interview with our “Natur-Elle”, Christianne:
(Scroll down for pictures!)
How important is fashion to you?
On an average day, I would say I spend at least 50% of the day in clothes, right? So, I would have to say, yeah, fashion is fucking important.
I know, it sounds superficial to say, but that hardly makes me a bad person.
Fashion is definitely more important than most people would like to admit.
Personally, my style changes everyday. How I look lets everyone know how I’m feeling that day, whether it be diva-esque, ghetto-fab or just plain old crazy. I am influenced by what I see on TV, old movies and on the racks of value village. However, I’m also inspired by the styles of my friends, bold colours and art.
What in your closet can you not live without?
My grandmother’s black sequined cut-off tube top from the 80’s, she passed this down to me along with a gold halter-top made entirely of tiny metal pieces, extremely heavy, but so sick.
What incited you to become interested in fashion?
A mixture of things, but when I was an itty bitty, I spent a lot of time playing dress up. I would put on my grandmother’s black Ferragamo heels, her vintage Valentino sunglasses and one of my many princess dresses. I would then dress up my Barbie to match. We were an unstoppable pair, except when Ken would choose to marry Raggedy Anne instead of us. Seriously, what an asshole.
What is your favorite trend right now? Of all time?
Right now, I really like Lady Gaga, who in my mind sets a trend of her own called CRAZY!!!
My favourite trend of all time would have to be super high heels; beautiful to look at, but torturous to wear.
What was your worst fashion choice? Elaborate…
… Baby Phat shoes. White leather with accents of taupe alligator skin to make ‘em really POP. Yikes.
Are there any high fashion pieces that you covet?
A kelly green chiffon dress (crystal belt around the natural waist) by Alexander McQueen in his 2005/06 winter collection.
Favorite designer/store? How do you feel about designer labels as opposed to everyday brands?
Currently, Alexander McQueen. Not only does he present some of the most gorgeous clothes, but he does it with such creativity and grace. However, I will always appreciate Yves Saint Laurent and his impeccable gowns.
To be honest, I don’t own a lot of actual name brands, instead I am a definite thrift shopper. This includes taking trips to value village, raiding my dad’s closet and making use of my grandmother’s beautiful vintage gear.
What’s your take on the fashion industry generally only using extremely thin girls?
Everyone is built differently. If a girl pops out and grows up to be nearly 6 feet, 100 pounds and gorgeous, well good for them! Born to be a model, right? Beauty is obviously important when it comes to modelling, but who is to say that a bigger body isn’t a beautiful one? As a society we get to dictate what is considered the ‘norm’. In a perfect world every type of body could be showcased without question. Short, ultra-tall, curvy… what I’m really trying to say is that I wished that a girl weighing 130 pounds on the runway wasn’t considered plus size.
Nice quote, huh? If only I came up with it…but it speaks volumes. My lovely blog-crazed friend, Ally, showed me this article which is extremely interesting and is full of some great lines like the title above. It’s a fairly long read, but a good one and if you read this blog, other blogs, have a blog, want to start a blog, [insert verb here] blog, then I highly recommend taking the time to read it.
Onto pictures from last Thursday onwards that I’ve been too exhausted to put on! The last 2 weeks of school…Rocky crunch time, class crunch time and school applications crunch time. Remember in grade 12 when there was that moment of “What if not one school accepts me?!” I’m back there only this time directing a show and anticipating 2 class presentations which I am highly unprepared for…great. So now I’m blogging instead. Way to be, self.
Thursday: QMT & Rocky Horror Karaoke Night! We were all very artsy and sang in a coffee shop, like Friends…the Musical. Friday: PLAYERS! Oh how I miss Players. Luckily we got to sing onstage at the end, I don’t remember the logistics, but it was probably whether they liked it or not. Saturday: Hockey Rookie Party…yeah. It was an experience? Yup. I’m sticking to that. As tempted as I was to wear Charo all weekend (my new pet’s new name) I didn’t want to overdo it, so she made 2 appearances. Glad I didn’t in the end because besides my new boho vest that I wore to be boho at karaoke in a boho coffee house, to the untrained eye (okay, anyone but me) I wore black dresses all weekend. Apparently I don’t feel comfortable wearing Charo against anything that’s not black or navy…actually all I really wear are black and navy…colour intervention? Maybe I’ll do that over the break…
- Suede (Boho) Top!
- Knit (Boho) Vest!
- …Quilted (Boho) Chanel?
- Hallae & Charo BFF
- Black Bra & Studs
- Red shoes!
- Les tittays
- Glamazon down!
- …Satan?
And check this out! (And then watch all the classic clips. All.)

Hello All You Beautiful People,
My wonderful (and stunningly beautiful) friend Julia Sheasgreen is a fashion model who has spent the last year modeling in exotic locations all around the world including China and London. Julia reports to us this month from Cape Town, South Africa where summer is just beginning (allow for a collective jealous sigh.)
Enjoy!
Tell us a little bit about your job in the beauty industry? What are your experiences with getting your makeup done as a model?
Getting my make up done before a job is fantastic. I usually watch what the makeup artist does in silence, observing his/her technique. It’s really amazing meeting so many talented and lovely MUAs. About a year ago I lost the bulk of my beauty collection flying home from Shanghai. After relaying my sob story a couple of times a wonderful makeup artist Vanessa Jarman gave me a couple of brushes and the best mascara on the market (Dior Show, duh!).
What are the ups and downs (beauty-wise) of being a model?
The best beauty perk of the job is when the makeup has managed to last throughout the shoot and I can take it out at night, especially if they let me keep their false eyelashes!
The worst part is when the hair/makeup up is a little too…imaginative for the real world, and impossible to get off! (i.e. Painted white hair…thanks team.)
What is your every day beauty routine?
Oooh it changes every single day! I’m not very obedient to the number one beauty rule. I bought a face moisturizer last week to “be good” and it turns out it has shimmer in it! I’m sorry, but you canNOT put glitter in your product and not warn anyone. Anyway, there are a few constants in my routine: Benefit’s Erase Paste for my night-owl tendencies, mascara, some sort of colour on my cheeks to make me a little less NC15 white…and usually I’ll make myself time to do more because I love it!
What is your beauty product obsession? (a.k.a. your desert island product)
Yeah phew, whenever I read that question in magazines I try to think what on earth my answer would be. I think I’d choose a dark grey liner (MAC Eye Khol in Phonenumber) because there are a lot of diverse looks to create with it. And maybe a nice lip/cheek colour duo (perhaps MAC crème blush in Uncommon). Basically products that aren’t limiting, I want to have fun with it.
Best Beauty Tip?
Make it clean and even. You can still go dramatic, but there’s nothing fabulous about a crooked smokey eye and joker-style lipstick.
Most Regrettable beauty moment?
For years, trotting around with some sort of shimmery-without-telling-you product on my face while thinking I looked natural.
You are currently living and working as a model in South Africa, any beauty tips and or trends from Cape Town for us?
Natural makeup is all the rage here. I met a model today who wasn’t wearing any eye make up but had a rad colour on her cheeks- it was stunning. You don’t NEED to put make up on every feature. I don’t wear foundation, which is a very good one to skip if you don’t need it.
Anything else you want to tell us?
I have a MAC obsession, this isn’t MAC product placement, it’s just really really great!
Thanks so much Julia for being our first Experte de la Beauté! We all miss you back in Canada and wish you luck in South Africa!
xx Lauren

Hello All You Beautiful People,
Not sure what your skin type is? Check out this quick self test from my favourite makeup book The Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual.
xoxo
Look at your own, clean, unmoisturized skin in the mirror. Is the overall texture flaky (dry), shiny (oily), or smooth (normal)?
How does your skin feel after you wash it with your current cleansing regimen? Tightness through the forehead is an indication of dry skin.
How does your skin normally look by midday? Is there oil breakthrough or dryness even though you have moisturized?
What lifestyle factors are influencing your skin’s current condition: stress? Hormonal fluctuations? Sun exposure? Diet?
Does your skin have noticeable sun damage? How are your protecting yourself against the sun?
