It’s not unknown that I have bad luck, or weird luck, or funny luck…in fact some of you know my theory about why bad/weird/funny things happen to me. This is not one of those moments. It’s just dumb, or silly, or kooky. (Words x 3 seems to be a theme already…I’m holding back synonyms.) Anyway, pictures taken then pictures lost then spirit broken. Boo. But the post will have pictures! Salvaged ones! Are they great? No. Will you live? Yes. Unless you don’t, sorry. Remember the Razza elephant necklace from ways back? Well, I traded him for a lion. I have too many elephants, besides I’m more like a big cat, right? You’ll see our new friend the lion in the following pictures (all three of them) and perhaps a dress repeat…salvaged! I’m sorry!
- Tila’s a proud mama
- YSL Overload
- Aslan!
Now comes the filler! I like animals (no, really?) so here are two of my favourite pictures that I will one day recreate when I own a zoo, or a farm, or break into either/or.
Next up! I ache for these (in the pale pink/nude):
Miu Miu‘s latest. I actually saw them on ebay in International Sales because they have yet to hit North American stores. Called up NYC, I may or may not be on some sort of magical-studded-platform-loafer-shoe list. But you have to see the colour I’m talking about. Holy God. Yeah, I get excited about shoes a lot, but I haven’t been this excited since the Meow Meows, so a big thank you to the designers at Miu Miu. I’ll send them a thank you…in the form of money…in return for shoes.
Now onto something that has been on my mind: I’ve been very caught up in accessories, and names, and wanting (which is not going to change so if you don’t want to embrace materialism move on blog-reader), but I feel like perhaps I’ve lost some of why I originally started this. I still post pictures of myself as an obviously curvier girl embracing fashion, but pictures of other gals that don’t fit into the “model” cookie cutter (that most bloggers fall into) who also embrace fashion have been lacking. Why? Lack of organization…laziness…shyness? All of the above. My short, curvy, proud, and fashion lovin’ gal pals make more than one appearance because they like to pose, know they have to if I say so, and I spend a lot of time with them. Hell, they might as well be contributors. So…what am I trying to say? I still think fashion doesn’t have a size requirement. I still think it’s about how you make fashion what you want it to be for you (which should always be fun). And I’m going to try my darndest to get some fresh meat, but if you want on, just let me know, sistah!
Now, watch the best dancing I’ve seen in a while, next three very funny sketches (I’m sure the other two are in the sidebar), and then holy-talent, this guy is amazing (also go to sidebar for the rest of his amazing videos). Sorry if you’ve seen these before, late post, it’s me…but now you’ve been reminded of how great YouTube can be. (“Can be”, not “Is”.)
(And on, and on…) I’ve praised it in two past posts… It got me interested in vintage… It made me love sparkles even more… Now here it is… Inside… THE BEAD GOES ON! (I was trying to sound like an announcer for wrestling or something along those lines. I hope you got it.) On Wednesday Tila and I decided to go for a walk to McDonald’s (shut up) and we somehow ended up at The Bead Goes On (weird…) where we bought quite a bit (we wouldn’t) and I got to take pictures! So really I went for the blog’s sake, nothing to do with the constant want to acquire jewelry. Mmmm, materialism. The owner, Cyndi, was kind enough to let me take pictures in her store of all the goodies that surround every inch. The store is quite small, but that’s the best part because you’re absolutely surrounded by fabulous (and sparkly) items and it also means that at each visit you’ll find something new! Prices are amazing too, most lie between $15-$60 and of course the more snazzy items around $85-$165. There is a green bib necklace (which you’ll see in one of the pictures) which is so enormous, and so sparkly and so fabulous, and even has a pin on the other side of the bib part to secure it which is $350, but in comparison to the nice bibs out right now and the fact that this one is so unique, that’s a fantastic price. Okay, I could go on to describe what I want to buy next and what I’ve bought, but let’s take you in!
- The Bead Goes On
- Window display
- Cyndi!
- Goodies…
- More goodies…
- More & more goodies!
- My mum called it “tuxedo fur”
- (Green bib!)
- Love this place
Tila got an amazing purple/hot pink necklace which I totally would’ve nabbed if I didn’t have a weird eye clashing issue…I’m not getting into it. Anyway, I’ll have to get some shots of the awesome jewelry, ya know, just in case you need more convincing which I highly, highly doubt. Check it out! Show me your new babies (not real babies, sparkly babies, but if you have an actual sparkly baby I’d look at that too).
P.S. Just started watching 30 Rock and OMG. OMG. WHY DID I JUST START? OMG.
Like Miu Miu. (My funny thing continues apparently.) Tila and I went to Panorama which is the restaurant at the top of the Manulife Centre. Tila really wanted to go, I had never been, but had always wondered about the mysterious elevators by the movie theatre so it was a date…literally. We took a date picture. A date. It was actually pretty cool because it was late so the view was amazing with all the bright lights (or should I say, sparkles?) It also gave me a chance to wear my new shoes so it basically could have been McDonald’s (where we happened to pop by today…) and I still would’ve been excited. That’s where my play on words (sure) in the title comes in. I snatched me a pair of the printed satin mary janes with the cats on them! Animal Lady…Cat Lady…same difference at this point.
- She’s excited
- Drink with snack perks
- Paparazza
- “Meow Meow”
- Very oversized blazer
- The “penguin”?
- Finally the right way
- Oh, Tila
- Sparkly
P.S. Went to my favourite jewelry store today (think hard, you know the one) and took some pictures so look forward to those!
My last drama formal. It really hasn’t hit me since I haven’t moved out yet, but I’m sure it will all come flooding in once that day comes. For now, let’s take a look at everyone’s (okay, my) favourite thing: sparkles. We showed up late to the dance, and were very sparkly, and made quite the entrance…it was kind of embarrassing, but apparently “fabulous” so I’ll take it! As you’ll see my dress and shoes aren’t the easiest things to dance in, but we still ripped it up. And by “ripped it up” I mean were completely ridiculous and had partner swapping and a chair and interpretive dance…the rhythm definitely got us. Good one, me. I’m full of great jokes lately, I’m thinking of doing stand-up. Or not. I wore a vintage dress from Starling in Kingston and the fav new YSL heels. Tight and high = totally comfortable, for sure. I’m also throwing in two random photos that I find funny, and if you remember back to that stand-up thing a few words ago… I need to stop. Okay. Pictures.
- “Sparkles” Collage outfit
- Always dancing
Our man of the night really wanted to try out his model moves and I think he did a great job, it just had to be showcased. And aren’t the last two photos funny? We had to incorporate song, dance, poetry, mime and speech into a presentation that had an encompassing theme and mine was obviously sparkles. It was really just an excuse to wear that many shiny/glittery things at the same time without anyone questioning it. Mission accomplished. And I just really liked the photo of me dancing because it seems to be happening in my photos more lately, that and I love that dress.
I’ve been on an animal buying kick lately and have bought two Razza pieces in the past 24 hours. I’ve only found sites that showcase the zodiac series since it’s the most popular, but you can find much more of it on ebay. Who doesn’t love that? For the most part the prices are great which makes me think that give it a while and they’ll start to raise so if you like what you see, bid now. These are the two new members of the family (live photos to come when they arrive):
I’m very excited to wear this guy, the pendant is huge. There’s a lion that’s similar that seems to be calling my name, or roaring my name.
Next is my hatching chick which I don’t think is as pretty, but it’s so darn cute! It also looks a lot better on a gold chain…like mine…will be. I’m pretty excited to name them. (Don’t judge me.) I also got really lucky with the elephant purchase, the woman who sold it to me on ebay is an animal accessory-aholic like me and we’ve been going back and forth about her amazing collection so I’m sure the family is bound to grow quite a bit very soon. I wonder if I still have all those Playmobil cages…I can make a zoo! There are cat ladies, then there’s me…and I’m also a quasi-cat lady. Oh no. I also found some very pretty, very expensive animal jewelry, but that’s another post! So for now, check out Razza! Find your special zodiac pendant!
Strippers. Hookers. I know, save it. Here’s how I see it. Lady Gaga goes to the airport like this:
I know. Too fabulous, I wish I had the guts to do that. But since I do not shouldn’t I attempt it in a smaller scale? A clear, plastic-y, and often bejeweled scale? Behold! Prada Lucite!
It’s different, and weird, and dare I say taboo? So, really, they’re pretty awesome…right? Lady Gaga-esque…Trendster…Futuristic…Costumey…Thoughts?
(P.S. I say “Thoughts?” but I mean “Please, agree with me.”)
The title says it all…ACTUAL PICTURES!
Tila and I had a little photo shoot today to make up for the fact that due to my fear of losing another camera I tend not to bring it anywhere, which is why a (sober) photo-thon at home is perfect. I’ve been seriously vintage-ing lately because I had such luck with vintage jewelry at The Bead Goes On that I wanted to try my hand with clothing…just as much luck! No more of that mass-produced crap! (That’s a joke PS.) I made a killing at a vintage store in Kingston called Starling where the prices are fantastic; everything tends to be in $25-$55 price range. Also picked up some great stuff from Bungalow, 69 Vintage and the second-floor of 69 Vintage Collective, all in Toronto. Of course Toronto is more expensive, but the blue and black stripped jacket in the photos is vintage YSL which I got for $105, not bad at all. I won’t get into crazy detail about all the stuff…because I’m lazy. But if you have a question or want to know more about a piece or price or store or whatever, just comment and I’ll let ya know! Okay? Okay!

PS. Check her out…I bought the pink bunny. Tsuru Bride. I really want the blue killer whale and the red alligator.
I do. I’ve written a bit more than a quarter of it…I have been brainstorming ways out. My best so far is handing in my essay from last term then playing the ditz, which could work on this guy if my top is low enough and my skirt high enough…I’ll mull it over.
The picture: (From The Sartorialist, check him out.)
Now I have tried to accomplish this look with various vintage and new sparklies and (having failed) decided it was not possible to pull off in real life! I was mistaken…obviously this woman is very skilled and has a great eye. That’s not to say I’m not very skilled or have a great eye, I’m just…awkward? Sure, why not. Okay, onto my solution! When I first tried to do the casual layered sparkle thing it was because I had just seen a gorgeous Tom Binns necklace and thought “I can do that”, I also thought “They definitely don’t have Tom Binns in Canada…” They do. At Holt Renfrew, of course. But it’s a very limited assortment. Before I get into that…Tom Binns:
There is a “megastore” in NYC and I’m sure American department stores have much better selection and if you’re not into the over the top gemstone stuff you can find some of the more subdued pieces online, but unless you’re going somewhere chic in the states soon, it ain’t happening. (Long sentence.) I have emailed their International Sales department, because I’m that girl, so perhaps there will be hope! I feel like they won’t get back to me though. If I were a super chic, asymmetric, sparkly wearing, fashionable, cool person I would probably have better things to do than answer emails from a @queensu.ca address. In the meantime I’ll continue attempting to do it on my own, aka learning to be as cool as picture gal, and maybe I’ll post pictures of attempts…
P.S. Into Alice in Wonderland? The Tim Burton one? Tom Binns did a collection for it through Disney Couture which is available online…it’s not my thing, but it may be yours: Tom Binns’ “Down the Rabbit Hole”.
Quick post. I suck, especially with camera…busy…yadiyada.
Maybe I’ll suck less (that’s what she said) if you (any, all) buy me these (any, all):
Please & thank you. Acne.
Rocky Horror, auditions, new show, school, life… The usual. I’ve had complaints. I’m sorry. Is it that I’ve stopped spending far too long thinking of outfits? No. I just haven’t been taking pictures…missed out on some great outfits…I’ll just re-do them.
But what’s to come?! (In this post, that is. I’m not at the point to plan future posts just yet.) Animals, heels, photo shoots in a washroom, a particular trooper of a silk skirt. It’s all very exciting. We have some new additions to the family! The family being Charo and myself. Goldie has arrived along with others who have been named and will be introduced…right now!
Rupa and Hema the elephant sisters, Giles the hound and Bimb the peacock. I realize I’m starting to sound a bit crazy, but…(well for those of you that will understand this) it’s just another tactic, really.
I found Bimb in my favourite vintage jewelry store. It’s this little hole in the wall off of Mount Pleasant by Eglinton and it’s rare to catch it open. I got lucky recently and picked up this gem and a beautiful vintage ring which I’ll post soon.
The woman who runs it is great and extremely knowledgable not just with vintage, but with trends so she knows how to “talk shop” as we in the biz put it. …Wow. It’s called The Bead Goes On and I highly recommend it.The stuff is great and the prices are very reasonable, I’m honestly shocked every time at how little I’m paying for these gorgeous pieces.
Onto people! I have some old pictures from the Rocky Horror gala night and some from a random night in which I actually remembered to take out the camera. We got really into posing on gala night, we look a bit ridiculous, but it was fun. Also please note my shoes in those pictures…YSL Aliama. 50% off. Yeah, baby. A second please note: I know I’m wearing the same skirt in both, these pictures are separated by a month, I don’t just wear it everyday…maybe if I had it in several colours…
It’s been a while. It has also been exams, break, Christmas, New Years, Rocky, so I have a bunch of excuses…always with the excuses. I had quite a good Christmas (followed by 3 days of shopping so a good extended Christmas, some nice gems). Got really lazy with the camera and lazy in general, but I did manage to acquire a few pictures. I still want to do an animal accessory post, and with QMT’s The Rocky Horror Show opening on Wednesday I’m hoping to have some pretty outfits that will also warrant a fabulous post. Maybe even get some shots of our very sexy costumes to post after the show closes! Do I have any amusing stories? No. Not a very exciting break, although after spending the last 4 days in a theatre I’m finding pretty much everything hilarious so I’m sure I’ll have some great sleep deprived stories soon. I tried to wear more colour this break, I planned on doing a “challenge” but…lazy…you know. It was also far easier to work colour in for a reason that is very evident in the pictures.
Oh, and remember that MuchMusic VJ thang and I made people watch things and just wouldn’t stop pushing them…here’s an even better one! It’s a segment on our Rocky Horror Show! Watch it then buy tickets! And dress up! Who hasn’t thought about dressing in drag?
